Graphic Design II
This course follows Graphic Design One

The second year of the program provides students with an opportunity to specialize in a certain area of graphic design or further explore it's many possibilities moving their design skills from print to web design,  motion graphics, video and interactive publication design. Students will continue to design for print along while exploring  and appropriating their designs to be viewed on portable devices, websites, electronic publications, and video entertainment media.

Students may engage in internships and outside projects to improve their interpersonal, creative and technical skills.  Students explore designing for the web and creating motion graphics.  Students further explore their own visual language by mixing illustration, typography, photography and artistic expression. Students gain a better understanding of the business aspects of graphic design by preparing a resume and portfolio website to showcase their work, applying for work online, honing their interviewing skills, working with real clients within the community and also submitting work for hire through crowdsourcing sites online with Behance, Crowdspring and Threadless. Students compete locally and nationally vying for recognition, grants, scholarships, and funding ( SKills USA, Scholastic National Art& Writing, AIGA, Adobe, and local businesses).

Students develop a strong print and digital/online portfolio for college and job application entry.  Throughout the year students enter design, photography, and multimedia competitions to gain recognition, scholarships and a competitive edge for their future.  Students will work inside and outside of the school on a variety of projects including designing and painting murals/graffiti for the Oxford Hills Skate Skate Park, signage for the high school, community projects and design and photography exhibits.


Students hone their skills creating work for bids through behance, crowdsource, and threadless.
Certification as an Adobe Certified Associate is available in three different content areas for students who qualify and pass exam.  

Articulation agreements have been made with Southern Maine Community College, at the post-secondary level. Students can earn up to 9 credits towards an Associates Degree in mCommunications and New Media.

Advanced typographic problems requiring the implementation of both traditional and alternative methods will facilitate a deeper exploration of modern communication issues including layered hierarchies, type in motion, typographic voice and illustration.
